Carbon Steel
Characteristics and
Applications of Carbon Steel
Carbon steel is an alloy of iron and carbon and is the most widely used steel material. Its performance mainly depends on the carbon content. The higher the carbon content, the higher the strength and hardness of the steel, but the lower the plasticity and toughness.

Low carbon steel (carbon content 0.02% ~ 0.25%):
Features: good plasticity, good toughness, easy to process.
Uses: manufacturing plates, profiles, pipes, etc., widely used in construction, automobile and other industries.
Medium carbon steel (carbon content 0.25% ~ 0.6%):
Features: higher strength and hardness than low carbon steel, but lower plasticity and toughness.
Uses: manufacturing mechanical parts, gears, etc.
High carbon steel (carbon content 0.6% ~ 2.14%):
Features: high hardness, good wear resistance, but poor plasticity.
Uses: manufacturing knives, springs, etc.
